2. Information We Collect

We collect information in two ways: information you provide directly, and information collected automatically when you visit our site.

Information you provide directly:

  • Name and email address when you submit our contact form
  • Name, email address, and website URL when you leave a comment on an article

  • Any additional information you voluntarily include in a message or comment

Information collected automatically:

We do not collect sensitive personal data such as Social Security numbers, financial information, or health-related data.

Comments: When visitors leave comments on our articles, we collect the data shown in the comment form (name, email, website), along with the visitor's IP address and browser user agent string. The IP address is collected to help with spam detection and moderation. An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to display your profile picture. The Gravatar privacy policy is available here.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your inquiries and messages submitted through our contact form
  • Deliver newsletter content you have subscribed to
  • Understand how visitors use our site so we can improve our content and user experience
  • Analyze traffic patterns and website performance
  • Detect and prevent technical issues, spam, and abuse
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit our website. We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

Essential cookies: These are necessary for the website to function properly. They enable basic features like page navigation and access to secure areas. The website cannot function properly without these cookies.

Analytics cookies: We use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymous usage data, including pages visited, session duration, and traffic sources. Google Analytics uses cookies to distinguish unique visitors. This data helps us understand how visitors interact with our site. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.

Advertising cookies: Our advertising partners may set cookies to deliver ads relevant to your interests. See Section 5 for details.

Comment cookies: If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies last for one year.

Managing cookies: You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of our website. Most browsers allow you to refuse or accept cookies, delete existing cookies, and set preferences for certain websites.

5. Advertising Partners

We may work with third-party advertising partners to display ads on our website. These partners may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to collect information about your browsing activity across websites in order to provide advertising that is relevant to your interests.

When advertising is active on our site, our partners may include services such as Google AdSense, Ezoic, Mediavine, or similar ad networks. Each partner operates under its own privacy policy. We will update this section with specific partner names as they are added.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org. You may also adjust your ad preferences in your Google account settings at adssettings.google.com.

6. Embedded Content

Our articles may include embedded content from other websites, such as YouTube videos, Twitter/X posts, Instagram posts, TikTok videos, and other social media embeds. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you had visited that website directly.

These third-party websites may collect data about you, use their own cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content. If you have an account with these services and are logged in, they may associate your visit with your account.

7. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share limited data with the following categories of service providers who assist us in operating our website:

  • Hosting provider (Hostinger) — to serve our website and store data securely
  • Analytics provider (Google Analytics) — to analyze website traffic
  • Contact form provider (WPForms) — to process form submissions
  • Advertising partners — to serve and measure ads (see Section 5)
  • Email service provider — to deliver newsletters, if applicable

We may also disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

8. Data Retention

Contact form submissions are retained for up to 1 year to allow us to follow up on inquiries and maintain records of correspondence. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata (including your IP address) are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. You may request deletion of your comment data by contacting us.

Analytics data collected through Google Analytics is retained according to Google's data retention settings, which we have configured to 14 months. After this period, the data is automatically deleted.

9. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data. These may include the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — request that we correct any inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion — request that we delete your personal data
  • Opt-out — opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal data
  • Portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information provided in Section 14. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

10. California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). These include:

  • The right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information
  • The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information
  • The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

We do not sell your personal information. However, some of our advertising partners may collect data through cookies that could be considered "sharing" under the CCPA. You can opt out of this by adjusting your cookie preferences or by visiting the opt-out links provided in Section 5.

To submit a CCPA request, please email us at the address listed in Section 14.

11. Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

12. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Our website uses SSL/TLS encryption (HTTPS) to protect data transmitted between your browser and our servers. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically for the latest information on our privacy practices.
