A TikToker and his friends booked flights to Miami specifically to eat at the Cactus Club Cafe, only to get stopped cold at the door because one friend’s outfit violated the venue’s dress code. The video of the awkward moment has racked up over 330,000 views and sparked a cross-border debate about just how seriously the Canadian chain is taking its American expansion.

The clip, posted by TikToker Trevor Blair (@trevor.blairrr), was captioned “POV: You flew out of town to try Cactus Club but they dress code your whole outfit,” according to BroBible. The video shows the friend, dressed in a V-neck white t-shirt and denim three-quarter-length shorts, asking the doorman what exactly was wrong with his look. The answer: both the shirt and the pants.

Blair and a female friend eventually broke down laughing as the rest of the group stood outside the restaurant looking lost. Between laughing fits, Blair kept repeating “I just spent $30,” before telling the group, “I’m laughing because we still gotta pay the $30.” The trip had already cost them a flight, and now it had cost them dinner too.

What Cactus Club Miami actually requires

The Cactus Club Cafe Miami location spells out its policy clearly on its website. Guests are expected to dress in “stylish, smart casual attire.” Banned items include athletic wear, hoodies, sweatpants, oversized clothing, slides, flip flops, swimwear, and anything described as “excessively bold or disruptive.” For the evening service specifically, men cannot wear shorts, sleeveless shirts, or baseball caps. Blair’s friend was flagged for both his shorts and his shirt, which could fall under the “overly revealing” clause.

This isn’t an isolated incident. Another TikToker, going by @adriianaasiimone, also went viral after being turned away from the same Miami location despite wearing a skirt and a top. She warned her followers that Cactus Club “runs a strict program,” adding, “So just make sure you put that sh*t on for real because they’re not f**king around,” as NOW Toronto reported.

Canadians cannot believe it

The contrast with Cactus Club’s Canadian locations has become the real story online. The chain, which was founded in Vancouver, has dozens of locations across Canada where dress codes are essentially nonexistent.

In Blair’s comment section, viewers were stunned by the difference. “Lmaooo in Vancouver we go in literal pyjamas,” one person wrote. “I could wear just underwear at Cactus in Calgary and they would still seat me,” another said. A Canadian commenter on the @adriianaasiimone video put it plainly: “This is crazy because in Toronto you could literally go in a tracksuit if you wanted to.”

Rival chain Earls Restaurants even got involved, commenting under the viral video, “We’d accept you, boo.”

It’s a wild case of a viral moment going sideways, but it’s also a genuine warning for anyone planning to visit. The Miami Cactus Club is not the same casual experience Canadians grew up with. And as one commenter pointed out, there are plenty of other places in Miami doing things that raise eyebrows with far less fanfare.

Back at the club entrance, Blair tried to lift the group’s spirits with an impromptu dance. It didn’t work.
