A TikTok creator who goes by iamrealeddiejayyy has posted a video about spending the night at Denver International Airport. The video shows the airport terminal late at night, with the creator sitting on the floor next to a black rolling suitcase. The terminal appears to be almost completely empty.
In the video, the creator says he heard a strange sound while walking through the airport’s train station. On-screen text in the video reads, “Spent the night at Denver International Airport waiting for an available flight, and around 2:00 a.m. things started getting… weird.”
The video’s caption describes the sound as “a loud, low-frequency sound echoing through the station.” The creator said he “honestly couldn’t tell where it was coming from—or what was making it.”
The creator connects the sound to the airport’s reputation for conspiracy theories
The creator said in the video’s caption that hearing the sound in an empty airport at 2 a.m. made “all those conspiracy theories about this place hit a little differently.” He added, “Maybe there’s a perfectly normal explanation. But at 2:00 a.m… it sure didn’t feel normal.”
Denver International Airport has long been the subject of online conspiracy theories. The creator appeared to reference those theories in his caption. However, he also wrote that he “didn’t really experience paranormal activity” during his stay. He said he spent the night at the airport until 8 a.m. and walked around exploring the entire place. Stuck overnight in an airport terminal is a familiar ordeal for travelers, as one woman spent nine hours at Newark Airport after being deplaned from two flights.
The video shows the brightly lit interior of the airport from a low angle. The terminal appears to have multiple levels with glass railings and structural elements visible in the background. A continuous low-frequency humming sound can be heard throughout the video. Odd late-night airport moments like this one have a way of surfacing on TikTok, such as when a traveler filmed a TSA agent reading his notebook during a bag inspection at Dulles Airport.
Commenters offered possible explanations for the sound
One commenter who said they used to work at the airport offered an explanation for the sound. The commenter wrote, “This is the nightly audible (400hz) test of the public address speaker system. It does one set of speakers at a time, so you’ll hear it ‘roll’ through the airport. What you don’t hear is the inaudible (20k) test that runs every few minutes all day everyday. 😁”
Another commenter who claimed to be a former airport employee wrote, “hey, used to work there. the bathroom doors like to slam themselves. oh, and DO NOT follow the giggles.”
Other commenters shared their own experiences with the airport. One person wrote about a helpful interaction with an airport worker, saying, “Once I got back from a flight from nyc, forgot where I parked, phone died. so I was just wandering for like an hour at 1 am and just as I was giving up in tears this man working security i think with the thickest Kenyan accent pulls up in his car, lets me charge my phone for a bit while looking for my car then tells me that I am going ‘to win this life just don’t have your phone die you are foolish like my daughter 😭'”
Another commenter pushed back on the idea that anything unusual was happening, writing, “I dont get what people’s issue is as a native in coloraod its a normal airport hahahah ans not to mention a super easy to navigate airport”
One commenter suggested the creator could have received help from airport staff, writing, “You do know if you miss your flight there you can find a staff member and they’ll typically give you a free stay at a hotel overnight and then they’ll pick you up later on during the day”
Another commenter made a vague claim about the airport, writing, “there’s some backroom shit going on over there”
The video’s caption includes the hashtags #weird, #creepy, #denver, #horror, and #fyp. Denver International Airport has not publicly commented on the video or the sound described in it.
