A TikTok video from a creator named Hannah Student has sparked a debate about gym etiquette after she filmed a public service announcement about a fellow participant who allegedly left a Pilates class before it ended. In the video, Student addresses the camera directly to share her frustration with the incident, which she says occurred during a morning workout.
The video shows Student speaking in a selfie-style format. On-screen text at the beginning reads, “PSA for people who leave morning workout classes early.” She begins by stating, “Quick little reminder that if you cannot stay for the full morning workout class, don’t come.”
Student then elaborates on her point, addressing those who might have time constraints. “If you can’t stay for 50 minutes because you need to go and like get ready for work at 7 AM, don’t come to the 6:10 workout class,” she said in the video.
Student shares her account of the Pilates class incident
In the clip, Student describes the specific event that prompted her message. She says she was in a Pilates class when the person next to her left early. “I was just in a Pilates class and the girl next to me literally left with 7 minutes left of class,” she said.
Student asserts that the departure happened while the class was still in session. “We weren’t even like stretching, we weren’t even like done with the like workout part of class, we were still actively working out and she left,” she stated. She acknowledges that some studios may have different policies, but emphasizes her perception of the timing.
She concluded her point by offering advice to those who might be in a similar situation. “If that is you, either finish, or either like do a workout class after work, or do your own thing in the morning,” she suggested. Student expressed her view on the matter, saying, “Because leaving with 7 minutes left of class because you can’t give the instructor and the other people in the class 50 minutes of your time… Like, it’s rude, and I thought that was common sense, but apparently not if we’re leaving with 7 minutes left of a workout class at 7 AM.”
The video’s caption adds further context to Student’s claim about the other participant’s departure. The caption states, “Also for the record this girl like didn’t have an emergency and suddenly had to leave she had her phone screen up in class the entire time so she could check the time.”
The video prompts a range of reactions in the comments section
The post, which includes hashtags like #pilatesworkout and #workoutetiquette, has drawn numerous comments from viewers. The responses vary from supportive to critical of Student’s public call-out.
One commenter, identifying themselves as a Pilates instructor, directly disagreed with Student’s stance, writing, “Pilates instructor here 🖐🏻 you’re wrong.” Another user questioned the personal impact of the incident, asking, “but how does this impact you?”
Some comments took a more humorous or sarcastic tone. One user quipped, “What did the police say?!” while another remarked, “I know exactly who you were in high school.” Another comment simply noted, “Oh this is still up,” suggesting familiarity with the post. The discussion in the comments section highlights the divided opinions on the social etiquette of leaving a group fitness class before its official end time.
