A woman is sharing why she canceled a first date after receiving a late-night text message from her would-be date. The message contained screenshots of a conversation between the man and his friend, which included a sexual remark about her.
In a TikTok video, the creator, known as Cydney Jordan, detailed the months-long series of interactions that led up to the planned date and the text that ended it. The video’s caption reads, ““stop the apps meet men in person” yeah OKAY.”
Jordan explained that she first met the man at a beach in Newport, California, in May of the previous year. She said he approached her respectfully while she was alone, invited her to join his friends, and later asked for her number. She declined, stating she was not dating at the time.
A series of chance encounters led to a planned date
Jordan recounted running into the same man a couple of months later at a post office, where they exchanged a brief greeting. She said about six or seven months after that, he approached her at a grocery store, recognized her as “Sydney from the beach,” and asked for her number again. This time, she agreed.
She said he texted her at the end of July to ask her out. Jordan told him she was busy with a move, international travel, and house-sitting until mid-September. He suggested they meet for dinner when she returned, and they agreed to plan the date for her return.
Jordan stated the man called her to confirm her age—she is 30—and to ask about her preferences for the date, including restaurant type and dietary restrictions. He made a reservation and sent her the details. When she returned from her trip, he texted to welcome her back, and they confirmed the date was still on.
A late-night text with screenshots changed everything
The night before the scheduled date, Jordan said she received a text from the man around 12:30 a.m. She was asleep at the time. She told her followers she woke up to find three screenshots of a text conversation between him and another man.
Jordan described the first screenshot as showing the friend asking about “that girl from the beach” and if anything had happened between them. The man reportedly replied, “Not yet.” The second screenshot allegedly showed the friend saying he was going to “shoot my shot on Hinge,” to which the man replied, “go for it.”
The third screenshot, Jordan said, showed the friend sending another photo of her Hinge profile. The man’s response, as shown in the screenshot, was: “go for it, bro, maybe we can tag team her.”
Jordan expressed her shock and confusion in the video. “I don’t think I fully understand like what the point of sending me this screenshot was,” she said. She emphasized that they had never had flirty or sexual conversations that would make such a comment appropriate. “We had never had a single conversation that would even make him think I would be remotely okay with that type of language,” she stated.
She speculated he might have sent the messages by accident while drinking or was testing a boundary. Regardless, she decided to block his number and cancel the date. “I deleted everything. Blocked his contact, never going to speak to him again,” she said.
Instead of the date, Jordan said she planned to take herself out for a happy hour. The video shows her speaking directly to the camera from what appears to be a bedroom or bathroom. She concludes by showing a bottle of perfume she found while moving.
The video has sparked discussion in the comments section. One commenter wrote, “why would he say that? 2) why would he SHOW YOU???” Another comment read, “Men are not lonely enough…” A third viewer commented, “Men really do be cockblocking themselves. 😳🙄😳”
Someone else advised, “remember his friends name so when he messages you on hinge you can block him too.” Another commenter noted, “The speed at which u speak is perfect.”
