A woman who appears to be a real estate agent named Nitza Peña posted a TikTok video showing what she said happened after she bought a Gucci Guilty perfume at Ross. In the clip, filmed from the driver’s seat of a Mercedes-Benz, she said she had just opened the box and discovered that it did not contain a perfume bottle.
Peña said in the video that she had been excited about the purchase at first. “So look guys, I just bought this, just opened it from Ross. I was like, oh, I like how this one smells, da da da da da. And I’m like, hmm, whatever, didn’t think much of it,” she said.
As she opened the box on camera, she said something felt off. “Let me show you, let me just open it. I want to take a video. I open it, right? And I’m still thinking over here, like, it doesn’t, it doesn’t feel, it doesn’t feel right,” she said.
The box contained a small blue bottle of Colgate Plax Ice mouthwash instead of perfume
The video shows Peña holding up a black Gucci Guilty Eau de Toilette box that was still in a clear plastic retail bag with a Ross price tag showing $52.99. As she pulled the contents out of the box, she said, “Well, yeah, it’s not right.”
She then revealed a small blue bottle of Colgate Plax Ice mouthwash instead of a perfume bottle. “What the hell is this, Ross? What in the world?” she said, holding the mouthwash up to the camera so the label was clearly visible.
Peña said she was unsure whether the store would accept a return. “And now I don’t even know if they’re gonna return it because of this,” she said in the video. The video ended with her holding the mouthwash in front of the Mercedes steering wheel. The fear that a store might refuse a return over a swapped box is not unique to fragrance aisles, as a couple opened a Best Buy package for a Garmin watch birthday gift but found a used phone instead.
On-screen text in the video reads, “Update: they returned it but they couldn’t believe it either 😭🥺”. The video’s caption says, “I went back and they returned it but I was so scared they were going to not return it 🥴😭”. The caption also includes the hashtags #parati, #paratiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, #fyp, #rgv, and #ross.
The video’s comment section drew a range of reactions from viewers. One commenter wrote, “This is exactly why we stopped doing returns on fragrance at my Ross😩”. Another person asked, “but it was wrapped. how?” A third commenter wrote, “Hurry tf up and open it”. Retail mix-ups like this one have a way of surfacing at the worst possible moment, as a wedding photographer says a 250 Amazon film order was filled with rocks instead of rolls.
Other viewers weighed in on the situation. One person wrote, “Girl Ross will take back anything 😬”. Another said, “Imagine if you would have bought that as a gift for someone 😳”. A commenter also wrote, “Oh my gosh unbelievable but it’s true 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳”.
