A woman documented her worst travel nightmare on TikTok, and it accidentally became one of the funniest stories of the week. Elena Fliszary (@elenafliszary) came down with a severe stomach bug mid-flight on a 10-hour international journey. She ended up in the hospital. But before she got there, she got bumped to first class.
The photo series, shared to TikTok and viewed over 2.7 million times, tells the full story. According to BroBible, Fliszary is first spotted in economy with her head slumped over the tray table. Overlaid text on the post reads, “Getting severe stomach flu on a 10 hour flight is not for the weak.” In the background on the seat-back screen, a still of Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw adds a touch of irony to the whole situation.
She was moved to first class mid-flight
Somewhere over the Atlantic, things escalated. It appears the crew relocated her to first class to give her, and the surrounding passengers, more room to breathe. A travel companion is shown gently placing a hand on her head in what might be the most tender image of the whole series.
The relief was short-lived. In a later slide, Fliszary is helped off the plane in a wheelchair. She went straight to a hospital for IV fluids.
The caption she left on the post was memorable: “My deepest apologies to all those in first class whose experience I ruined.”
The internet had thoughts
The TikTok comments section went in several directions at once. A chunk of viewers started flooding the post with “unclaimed negative energy,” a phrase typically deployed in the comments of paranormal videos as a kind of superstitious shield. Fliszary responded directly: “Guys no need to unclaim anything I promise ur not gonna get sick from watching this im crying.”
Others were less concerned with bad energy and more focused on the accidental perk. “All I’m seeing is free first class,” one commenter wrote. Another offered a grim comparison: “At least they put you in business. I had a 19 hour flight from Bali on an economy seat in the back with massive turbulence.”
It is worth noting that the stomach flu, formally called viral gastroenteritis, is highly contagious. According to the Mayo Clinic, the infection is often confused with food-borne illnesses caused by bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli, which can make it tricky to identify in the moment.
The trip was worth it in the end
Once she recovered, Fliszary posted a follow-up showing everything she picked up in Europe, including a pink embossed passport cover, a Nomination charm bracelet with a Duomo charm from Florence, a Gucci wallet, and a Zara leather jacket. She and her friends also got permanent bracelets as a group souvenir.
She described herself as now on a “shopping ban.” Given how the trip started, that seems fair.
Stories of servers using clever tricks to move things along and unexpected food discoveries going viral have become a staple of social media this year, and Fliszary’s flight saga fits right in. Nobody planned it, nobody asked for it, and that is exactly why 2.7 million people watched it.
