An artist who posts on TikTok under the handle @bre_doing_art said in a video that her brother had a photo of an unfinished painting printed at a print shop and then hung it in his bedroom. In the clip, she describes the situation as a “betrayal” and says the print is “my nightmare.” The video’s caption reads: “Genuinely!!!! Why!!!!!!”

The artist appears in what looks like an art studio, with several paintings visible behind her. She has blonde hair in braids and wears a striped headband. The video shows a large canvas behind her depicting a light blue and pink outline of a classical figure, possibly an angel or goddess, holding a bouquet. She also gestures toward a smaller painting on the floor that appears to show two falling figures in grayscale against a black background.

The artist said in the video that her brother asked her to paint something for him and that they “conceptualized it together.” She said he later texted her, “Hey, I need it to be black to match my bedroom color scheme.” She said she showed him the smaller, near-complete painting and proposed finishing that one and sending it instead.

Artist said her brother had a photo of the painting printed at a print shop

The artist said in the video that her brother “screenshotted that photo, went to a print shop, printed it out, and hung that up.” She described that outcome as “my nightmare,” explaining, “I don’t even like showing people finished pieces of my work.” She added, “I can’t even imagine people seeing an unfinished piece, especially because he’s in New York and all of his friends are really artsy-fartsy.”

She said she asked him to let her finish the painting and send it to him instead. She said he replied, “great, can you do that today?” to which she responded, “I’m like, no.” She said he then suggested, “you’re a graphic designer, just do it in Photoshop.” She responded, “Not how that works.” The artist’s frustration at having her work used without consent extends beyond family, as a designer says a major brand collaborated on a custom hair claw then went silent before launching their campaign without her.

The artist closed the video by saying, “So yeah, brothers are evil.” The video’s public caption reads: “Genuinely!!!! Why!!!!!!”

The artist did not appear to identify herself by full name in the video, and the clip does not show the print shop transaction, the text messages, or the painting hanging in the brother’s bedroom. Her account of those events is her own description of what she said happened.

Several viewers responded in the comments section. One wrote, “If you don’t call your mother immediately, I stg 😭” Another commented, “Send him an invoice.” A third wrote, “I feel like your brother uses ai… just a feeling.” One viewer said, “Listen I get it, that’s your sibling…. But call a lawyer.” Another wrote, “taking a photo of it unfinished and PRINTING IT. oh i would explode.” A final comment read, “Brothers are evil” deeper than you think. Family disputes posted to TikTok draw plenty of commentary, like a mother turning to the platform after her child’s girlfriend dyed the kid’s natural red hair purple.
