A video posted to TikTok captures a heated confrontation inside a Dollar Tree store in Houston, where a customer is seen verbally accosting an employee and the person recording the incident. The argument, which took place at the checkout counter, centered on the customer’s demand that the employee speak English.
According to the video’s creator, the video shows a woman with long red braided hair, wearing a white collared shirt, leaning over the counter and speaking loudly toward the employee, whose nametag reads “CIERRA.” The customer then turns her attention to the person behind the camera, stating, “No, you’re racist. I don’t care. Speak English. Learn how to speak English.”
According to the video’s creator, the person recording the video, identified by the TikTok handle @steamedbunbunny, responded by telling the customer, “That’s racist.” The video’s caption states the incident was “all because an older employee doesn’t know English” and notes the location as Houston, Texas.
Customer threatens to ‘slap the shit out of’ person recording
The confrontation quickly escalated. The customer in the video insisted that the job required bilingual skills, saying, “The job is considered to speak bilingual. No, both languages, not one. No, crazy ass.” The person recording countered, “You don’t have to be bilingual.”
The customer then directed a threat at the person filming, stating, “Hey, get me off your camera before I slap the shit out of you.” According to the video’s creator, the person recording replied, “Do it. I’ll call them. I’ll call police.”
The customer dismissed the threat, stating, “I don’t give a f–k. Call them, call them, because you’re not supposed to put me on no camera.” She repeatedly demanded, “Get that camera out my face,” and claimed, “You cannot record me without my, my permission.”
The person recording reminded her, “You’re in a public space.” The customer disputed this, saying, “No, I’m not. This is my space. You can stay over there.” She reiterated her earlier threat, saying, “And like I said, I slap the shit out of you if you put that camera in my face again.”
The video shows the camera briefly panning down to the checkout counter, where a sign reads, “Thank you for Shopping at Store #0890.” The argument continued until the customer concluded, “Like I said, you got in this car to keep arguing with me. That’s your fault.”
Video sparks online debate about language and public recording
The TikTok video, which has been viewed widely, prompted a range of reactions in its comment section. One commenter wrote, “Angry, racist and aggressive.” Another observed, “Why do people always think they can’t be recorded in public 😂 I cringe every time I hear that.”
Several comments focused on the language argument. “America has no official language,” one user noted. Another commenter suggested the customer’s behavior was an attempt “to feel superior to Hispanics.” The video’s own caption questioned the customer’s identity and stated, “No one else said anything. Poor employee honestly.”
