A TikTok video posted by a user known as “Abby | Vet journey” has sparked discussion about portion sizes and pricing at The Cheesecake Factory. In the clip, she addresses the restaurant chain directly about a recent purchase of her favorite chocolate cake.
She explained that she drove 20 minutes to get to the restaurant. “Cheesecake Factory, we need to talk,” she said at the start of the video. On-screen text at the top of the video read, “A message for The Cheesecake Factory.”
The creator acknowledged a price increase but said that was not her main issue. “I understand, that’s okay, things happen, inflation, things are more expensive. That’s not the problem,” she stated.
The creator’s complaint centers on portion size, not just price
The woman in the video then presented her primary grievance. “The problem is that if you’re gonna charge me $3 more Don’t give me less cake,” she said. The video shows her holding up a clear plastic takeout container with a slice of chocolate cake inside.
She brought the container closer to the camera to illustrate her point. “This used to be the full box. Do you see this? It’s missing a big, big chunk,” she said, pointing to an empty space inside the packaging.
She expressed confidence that the portion had changed. “Because I eat this cake probably way more than I should, so I know That is different,” she explained. She asked the restaurant to “please check that.”
Despite her complaint, she indicated she plans to remain a customer. “I’m still gonna go for you— to you,” she said. The video concludes with her taking a bite of the cake. After chewing, she nodded and said, “Still great.” Despite the portion change, she still enjoyed the cake, which contrasts with other food product complaints, like a man who found his Walmart beef burgers entirely gray from freezer burn.
The video’s caption asked, “Have you noticed this or is just me?” and included the hashtags #thecheescakefactory, #cheesecakefactory, and #storytime. The caption also tagged The Cheesecake Factory’s official account.
The video prompted a range of reactions from viewers in the comments section. One user commented, “Correct me if I’m wrong, but Cheesecake Factory slices used to be comically large at times… wtf happened 😭.”
Another viewer focused on the creator’s stated intent to return. “‘I’m still gonna go for you’ and that’s why they’ll keep making things less and cheaper, cause will still buy them,” the comment read.
A different commenter questioned the logic of the complaint. “You complaining about paying MORE and getting less… but you still gonna buy it…. Make it make sense,” they wrote.
One viewer commented on the restaurant’s social media engagement patterns. “Of course Cheesecake Factory doesn’t reply to a video when the video is negative, only when it’s a positive comment or a random comment,” the comment stated, adding, “They even commented on someone’s whose nails looked like the Cheesecake Factory bag but not when it is about their product. 🤦🏼♀️”
Another offered a potential solution: “Just buy a whole one and keep it in the freezer. I recently ordered a whole red velvet cheesecake and I eat one slice a month. 😂”
A final highlighted comment placed the issue in a broader context. “im absolutely tired of resturants charging more and making the portion smaller. its one or the other not both. if prices go up.. then you either charge nore for same portion or reduce portion and keep the price the same. ridicilous,” the user wrote. This frustration with restaurants charging more for less is a common complaint, as a Detroit woman recently called a cocktail priced just below fried chicken ‘mildly horrifying’.
