A woman identified by the handle @haileysani, who appears in a video identified by on-screen text as experiencing “winegate,” recently shared a puzzling dining experience on a dimly lit city street at night. She asked viewers, “Guys, I need you to tell me if you think I’m tripping or if you think I’m right.”
Hailey Sani said in the clip that she went to a “really nice restaurant” for dinner, describing the establishment as having “amazing food, great ambiance.” She explained that she ordered “a glass of white wine as a girl does,” but claimed it arrived “room temperature.”
She reportedly asked the server, “Hey, like I hate to be this person, but can I have like a cold glass of white wine?” The server reportedly responded, “Okay, I’m gonna put it on ice for a little and then I’ll bring it back.” Hailey Sani said she agreed, saying, “Okay, great.”
Server’s unusual claim and customer’s reaction sparks online debate
However, when the server returned the wine after “5 minutes,” Hailey Sani noted that “it, like, doesn’t really make a difference.” She added that “everyone at the table’s, like, already drinking” at this point. She said she took a sip and told the server, “Hey, I don’t really think that did anything.” She stated in the video that her “social anxiety is already at a peak” for speaking up a second time.
The server then reportedly looked her “straight in the face” and declared, “This white wine is meant to be drank room temperature.” Hailey Sani appeared to react with disbelief, saying, “hold up, hold up. Now I just feel like you’re f–king with me.”
She insisted in the video, “I never met a glass of white wine that’s meant to be drinking room temperature. That’s not a thing.” She claimed she questioned the server, “Are you sure?” to which the server reportedly replied, “Yeah.” Drink-order disputes between customers and servers have played out in other venues too, such as a bartender’s account of a customer who asked for an old fashioned then complained he forgot the sweet vermouth.
Feeling frustrated, Hailey Sani said she decided, “okay, like, you know what, how about I just get a cocktail like the rest of the girls?” To her dismay, she stated that at the end of the dinner, the restaurant “still charges me for the wine.” Hailey Sani appeared to express shock, asking, “Like, am I being punked right now? Like, am I overreacting?”
She confirmed that she asked the server to “take it off the bill,” which the server eventually did, but “she like literally gave me the nastiest, meanest look,” Hailey Sani claimed. She concluded the video by asking viewers to “Let me know.” Billing disputes at restaurants can escalate quickly, as when a customer confronted a J Alexander’s Tampa manager over a hidden to-go box fee and was then asked to leave.
The video shows a young woman with curly brown hair, wearing a black blazer over a black top, adorned with a gold necklace and rings. The background appears to show old, multi-story buildings with windows, some lit from within, and a distinctive red door on one building. Parked vehicles, possibly scooters or motorcycles, are visible on the street, and other pedestrians can be seen in the distance, suggesting a lively urban environment at night.
The video’s public caption asks, “wine girls chime in,” prompting numerous comments from viewers who largely sided with Hailey Sani’s perspective on white wine temperature.
Several users commented on the situation: “White wine is always served cold, while red wine is served at room temperature.” “If it’s suppose to be room temperature why didn’t she say that the first time you asked?” “Never heard of room temperature white wine and if they messed something up you should not be paying for it. That’s comming from a person working at a restaurant.” “If it’s not cold I don’t want it” “Even if it is meant to drink room temp, you can have it cold” “I mean even if it’s SUPPOSED to be served room temperature, I can ASK for it to be served cold..”
