A TikTok creator who goes by the handle @dayjaunte has drawn attention for a video in which he criticized what he described as performative wokeness among liberal white people. In the clip, the man argued that some white people ask questions about race that come across as misguided rather than helpful.
The video shows a man speaking directly to the camera, standing outdoors with trees and a wooden fence behind him. He is wearing an orange t-shirt with a large graphic of a lion’s face on it. His hair appears dark and curly, reaching his shoulders, and he has facial hair along with what appear to be piercings on his eyebrow and nose.
He opened the video by saying, “The way liberal white people disguise their racism in acts of kindness is beyond f—ing me.” He then offered an example of the kind of question he was criticizing.
The creator used a watermelon example to make his point
In the video, the man described a hypothetical scenario in which a white person asks Black people for permission to eat watermelon. “Black people, is it okay if I eat watermelon? Because I know you guys get stereotyped with that and I don’t want to contribute to any negative stereotypes of any other group of people,” he said, imitating the kind of question he was criticizing. He continued the example by saying, “So I think that until Black people are no longer facing stereotypes about watermelon, we as white people should stop eating watermelon.”
After offering that example, the man responded with a dismissive, “Shut the f— up, Dodo.” On-screen text that appears at the bottom of the frame throughout the video reads, “SOME of them… the worst ones,” and later, “i’m BARELY exaggerating with this example btw 😭.”
The man went on to argue that there is a limit to how far this kind of thinking can go. “Oh, believe it or not, there is a point of no return,” he said in the video. “You will get so woke that you will end up being an enemy to your cause. According to the video’s creator, you are being somehow more racist than the motherf—er.”
He then made clear that he does not believe these types of questions serve a real purpose. “Like, stop it. And it’s never a question that needs to be asked,” he said. “It’s never something that’s actually like an intelligent question asking for respect from a different community.”
The man concluded by suggesting that the people who ask these questions are not being genuine. “They’re just asking a dumbass question and they know that dumbass question has been asked and rejected before. So, you know, the answer is no,” he said. “Why the f— are you at? Because you want to viewbait Black people. Come on, bro.”
The video’s caption reads, “like dawg you’re NOT on our side 😭.”
Commenters shared their own examples and reactions
The video’s comment section filled up with responses from viewers who said they had seen similar situations play out online. One commenter offered their own example of a question they found unnecessary, writing, “Is it okay if I wear a bonnet to go to sleep?” Racial profiling caught on camera has drawn attention on TikTok before, such as a creator alleging Marshalls employees spoke Spanish while profiling Black shoppers.
Another commenter wrote, “They be getting pre offended for us whole time we not even mad 😭,” suggesting that some people express concern on behalf of others before those people have indicated they are upset.
A third commenter referenced a specific incident, writing, “That one girl who came on here and was like ‘ How much do you BLACK girls pay for your hair ‘” — appearing to describe a question they had also seen on the platform. Accusations of racism filmed for social media have surfaced in far more mundane settings too, like a filmer accusing an older man of racism in a laundromat.
Other commenters kept their responses brief. According to the video’s creator, one wrote, “When they try too hard… I already know,” while another simply replied, “Yep.” One commenter also wrote, “highkey dean withers,” though the specific meaning of that reference was not made clear in the comment itself.
